Jackie Moffat

Jackie MoffatChair (Voluntary)

In Sept '21 Jackie Moffat once again became Chair for the Lockerbie Old School Project, having been its first chairperson.  She was a teacher of Home Economics during her working life, culminating in being Principal Teacher at Annan Academy.

She was involved in the Education/Industry link project and sat on the Board of Studies, as well as being a mother of two and local business owner.  Following her retirement from teaching she volunteered in the Red Cross shop in Lockerbie and recently received a 10 year long service award for her work there.  She also volunteers with Kate’s Kitchen helping to establish a base for it within Lockerbie.

She has been a member of various committees such as Children First, Powfoot Golf Club, Lockerbie Golf Club, and Dumfriesshire Ladies Golf Association.

Gillian Moffat

Gillian MoffatSecretary (Voluntary)

Secretary of the Lockerbie Old School management committee, Gillian was born in Lockerbie and was educated at Lockerbie primary and secondary schools. Following completion of her schooling Gillian took a year out to travel to New Zealand.  On her return to the UK, she gained work experience in the travel industry and in a record shop.  In 1998 she started her training as a midwife at Paisley University, Ayr Campus.  Since her graduation in 2001 she has been employed by Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Six years later Gillian trained as a neonatal specialist at The Princess Royal Maternity Hospital and Caledonian University in Glasgow.  As a senior practitioner she is used to taking the lead, making decisions under pressure and managing others.  When not at work she enjoys family life, looking after her husband Andrew, their two sons Finlay and Rhys, and Maddox & Enzo the dogs.


Ken Harvey

Ken HarveyEstates Manager (Voluntary)

Ken Harvey has had a varied working life in heritage, education, sales and financial services.

He graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA(Hons) in Liberal Arts focusing on Culture and Identity. He has been a volunteer with a number of Lockerbie projects and charities and is currently the founder, chief officer and main driver of the Lockerbie Men’s Shed; established to help combat isolation and to promote active lives for older men in the Lockerbie and Lochmaben district.

On behalf of Lockerbie Men's Shed Ken managed the transfer of premises, under the Community Asset Transfer Scheme, from D&G Council. He then oversaw its redevelopment from a worn out, damp former waste paper store to a weathertight, comfortable space suitable for the running of a Men’s Shed, comprising a social area with toilet and kitchen alongside a large woodworking workshop.


Catherine Lacey

Catherine LaceyCreative Director (Voluntary)

Catherine Lacey, stepped down as Chairperson of the Lockerbie Old School management committee in Sept 21. She studied drama at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh and then followed a career in drama therapy, arts management and training.  She is a civil celebrant.

She has worked for a number of local authorities in Edinburgh, Berkshire, Oxford, Dumfries & Galloway and South Wales. She has been active on a number of committees for playgroups, community play and arts organisations.

She is familiar with policy and practice that relates to her chosen work within the voluntary sector and has attended training sessions, seminars and conferences, as well as being involved with national community initiatives such as the Great Get Together, Big Lunch and Arts Events. 


Lynda Robertson

Lynda RobertsonLiaison & Local Support (Voluntary)

Lynda Robertson used to be the manager of the Red Cross charity shop in Lockerbie and has had a varied working life as well as being a mother of two children.  She has been a volunteer for several charities, the local youth club and squash club and enjoys walking, cycling, fitness classes and hiking as well as gardening, baking and reading.

She has organised fashion shows, car boot sales, sponsored walks, afternoon teas, race nights, buffets and special events, both for her work and the charities she volunteers for.

She is an organised person who likes to be creative where possible. She is a very active and enjoys helping others to achieve their goals.


Honor Gibson

Honor GibsonMarketing Manager (Voluntary)

Newest and youngest member of the committee having been an active participant in many of the events involving Lockerbie Old School. Honor brings a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the project. She has a diverse background in childcare having been a classroom assistant at the local primary school and was a Brownie & Rainbow leader for many years.

Honor has extensive customer service experience having worked in the hospitality industry and is now currently employed at Tesco’s; you can often find her working on the checkout.  Outwith work, Honor volunteers as a parent helper as part of the Family Learning Activity Group (FLAG) at her daughters school and is currently training to be a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) ambassador for the community.


Linny Oliphant

Linny OliphantVoluntary Trustee

Linny has fond memories of starting Primary 1 at Lockerbie Old School and her mother taught there for many years. After leaving school and University, Linny initially worked as a music journalist, rubbing shoulders with bands ranging from The Spice Girls to Aerosmith, before becoming a Fashion Editor and a Director at The London College of Fashion. She has 20+ years of international experience and achievement in luxury brand development spanning Fashion/Textiles, Bespoke Automotive, Premium Spirits and Travel/Tourism. With a focus on tourism and destination development in the region, Linny is passionate about her home town and delighted to be part of the LOS project. A classic car enthusiast, Linny also operates The Love Bug D&G, Classic VW Wedding Cars and Tailor Made, Chauffeur Driven Tours from Lockerbie - the Classic VW Distillery Trail being a particularly popular choice for birthday and wedding anniversary celebrations.


Sarah-Jane Burns

Sarah-Jane BurnsVoluntary Trustee

Sarah-Jane joins the Committee as a new member in 2022, and one of her reasons for joining was her excitement about the plans and aspirations for the Lockerbie Old School project.  Sarah-Jane has had a series of community and education roles, both here in Scotland and abroad.  She has spent the last 7 years working in the Scottish space sector, based out of the University of Strathclyde; supporting academics, government, businesses and start-ups through events, business support programmes and partnership building.  Sarah-Jane loves working with entrepreneurs and is excited to support this project and those with ambitions in their own business ventures.


Mairi Pringle

Mairi PringleVoluntary Trustee

Mairi was born in Africa and moved to Scotland aged 10. Moving to Lockerbie she completed her secondary education at Lockerbie Academy. She trained as a primary teacher in Edinburgh and taught in Ayrshire and Annan before moving to Spain and teaching in Zaragoza and Malaga. Two of her children were born in Spain.  Following the PanAm disaster the family moved back to Lockerbie and their third child was born. Mairi returned to teaching and took up a post at Nethermill Primary where she taught for over twenty years finally retiring four years ago. She has a number of hobbies which keep her busy and she has recently rejoined the old school committee. 


Jen Reed

Jen ReedProject Development Manager

Jen has worked for the Old School Board since 2021. Originally she was our Communications and Engagement Officer, but soon showed her worth to the project and is now our Project Development Manager.  Jen, though born in the south of England has lived in Scotland for most of her adult life.  With a background in administration, IT, project and customer service management she has a wealth of experience that she brings to the role.  She has worked in both the private and public sectors and during the Covid 19 Pandemic she was a Council Volunteer helping her local community council give assistance to those in need.  Whilst living in Argyll she was Chair of her local Riding for the Disabled Group.

At the same time as working for the Old School project, Jen has a small menagerie of animals that keep her busy and a tiny art studio.
